Robot vacuum maintenance for a home with shedding pets

Build a brief inspection routine around your model’s care instructions.

Inspect the places where hair collects

A robot that collects pet hair also needs a plan for removing that hair from its own components. Begin with the exact manual and identify the user-serviceable brush, bin, filter, wheels and sensors. Make a short checklist rather than assuming an app reminder describes every task.

This article organizes maintenance. It does not replace model-specific instructions, prescribe a universal replacement interval or authorize opening electrical housings.

Learn the brush-removal process

Follow the manufacturer’s directions for switching off the robot and removing the permitted brush assembly. Check how the roller ends and any accessible bearings or caps are handled. Avoid pulling on a part whose removal method you have not confirmed.

Roborock’s maintenance guide identifies brushes, wheels, sensors and charging contacts as care points. The exact cleaning method and whether a component can be washed should come from your own manual. A washable bin does not imply a washable motor, sensor or filter.

Start with observation, then set a routine

During the first few uses, inspect the permitted components after cleaning. Note how quickly hair accumulates in your household. Use that observation alongside the manual’s care schedule to decide when reminders will be helpful. More frequent shedding or a change in pets may require revisiting the routine.

If you share the task, keep the cleaning tool and instructions together. A checklist with the component names is easier for another person to follow than “clean the robot sometimes.” Record any part you cannot inspect so you can ask support about it.

Keep wet and dry care distinct

Check which components may be rinsed and how long they must dry before refitting, according to the manufacturer. Do not assume a part is dry because the outside feels dry. Use the specified sensor and contact cleaning method rather than spraying household cleaner onto the robot.

Inspect parts for damage while they are accessible. If a seal, brush or wheel component looks worn, identify the correct replacement before buying. Avoid fitting a similar-looking part without confirmation that it belongs to the model.

Use symptoms as a reason to check

If pickup declines, docking becomes unreliable or the robot starts behaving differently, record the change and consult the official troubleshooting guide. Do not immediately raise every power setting or buy a replacement appliance. Normal care and correct assembly are reasonable first checks when the manual permits them.

Keep a simple note of completed care and parts replacements. The aim is not a complicated service history; it is to make routine ownership understandable and leave enough information to explain a persistent issue to support.

Match the reminder to observed buildup

During the first week, make a brief note after each permitted inspection: little hair, noticeable buildup or an issue that needs attention under the manual. Compare the notes with cleaning frequency and your pet’s shedding. Use that observation to place practical reminders alongside the manufacturer’s schedule.

If another person takes over care, show them the exact removal and reassembly instructions rather than summarizing them from memory. Keep spare compatible parts labeled so they are not confused with an older machine’s accessories. A reminder is helpful when it leads to the right task on the right component. It is less useful when it simply encourages someone to rinse everything or replace parts without checking whether that action is permitted or needed.
