Roomba 105 Combo: charge-only base or AutoEmpty bundle?

What the Y314020 and Y354020 configurations change about cost, bin handling and dock space.

Our guides explain the trade-offs behind a purchase. Read our disclosure.

Start with the chore you want to reduce

A self-emptying dock is most interesting when emptying the robot’s small bin is the task you are trying to do less often. That is a specific convenience. It should be weighed against the extra floor space, purchase cost and care associated with the dock.

This guide offers a decision process. It does not claim a measured reduction in cleaning time or guarantee that a dock will empty every type of pet hair without intervention.

The two bundles in concrete terms

The Y314020 product includes a charge-only dock; the Y354020 package includes an AutoEmpty dock. On November 5, 2026, iRobot displayed $169.99 and $269.99 promotional prices. That makes the displayed difference $100, before any tax or seller-specific charges. These are manufacturer snapshots, not live Amazon prices.

The AutoEmpty model’s quoted “up to 75 days” describes an advertised maximum, not a guaranteed bag interval in your pet household. Decide whether the bin-handling convenience is worth the price and space without assuming that other care disappears.

Measure the permanent footprint

Find the manufacturer’s placement instructions for the exact robot-and-dock combination. Record the physical dock dimensions, required approach space and access for changing bags or opening lids. Measure the proposed location with a tape, not just by looking at a product image.

Think about doors, skirting boards, curtains and household traffic. A dock that fits in a corner may still be inconvenient if it blocks a passage or is difficult to service. Include the cable route and safe power access in the layout.

Separate automation from care

Read which dock functions the model actually includes. “Self-emptying” is not the same description as washing mop pads, filling water or cleaning a dock tray. Manufacturer comparisons, such as eufy’s robot-vacuum buying guide, distinguish these station functions. Check the exact product rather than assuming one label includes them all.

Ask what remains for you to do after a normal week. A more automated dock may exchange frequent small tasks for a different set of tasks. That can be worthwhile, but it is useful to know what the exchange looks like before buying.

Count ongoing costs and interruptions

Look up compatible bags and any other required consumables. Estimate cost using your likely use, then revise it after ownership rather than promising a fixed replacement interval for every household. Check how the app reports a full bag or another dock issue.

Consider the timing of emptying cycles if you share a small home or have a sensitive pet. Do not rely on a general “quiet” claim without comparable measurements. Verify the controls available for scheduling or limiting functions on the actual model.

Choose convenience you can accommodate

A self-emptying dock may make sense when you have a suitable permanent location and value less frequent bin handling. A smaller charging base may make more sense when floor space or the upfront budget is the tighter constraint.

Compare two complete setups at current prices: robot with standard base, and robot with the relevant dock. Keep their cleaning capabilities separate from the docking convenience. You are paying for a different ownership routine, so choose the one you can live with comfortably rather than assuming larger means better.
